How to use it

In your classroom

  1. Choose the Year group on the first screen, then paste a story, poem or report, or pick one from the Text library, and press Explore this text. Press Change text to choose another text later.
  2. Pick a lens such as Word classes, Grammar or Writer’s craft to colour-code the text, then tap any word to see its word class, meaning, picture clue and similar and opposite words.
  3. Press Teach this and choose an objective, such as Year 4 fronted adverbials: the lens shows just that feature, with examples from the text, a hunt and a Your turn task.
  4. Press Board (or B) to fill the whiteboard with the text and put the key along the bottom. Turn on Reveal one at a time and press N to show each highlight after pupils predict it.
  5. Press Read aloud to hear the text with each word lighting up, or use Echo reading, Phrase cues and the One-minute read in Just read. Reading questions and Test practice in Grammar can be marked together with Check.
  6. Press Print for A4 sheets: the text with questions and a separate mark scheme, test practice, spelling words or a word class colouring sheet.

Number keys 1 to 7 switch lenses and Space reads aloud. In Word classes and Grammar, start a hunt and invite pupils up to find every example.

Choose your phonics programme and a voice in Settings. The Vocabulary lens then shows how much of a text a pupil can read by blending at their stage.

Add useful words to My word bank to come back to later in the week. They stay on this device until you clear them in Settings.
