Plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes

This complete lesson takes students from the layers of the Earth and mantle convection to the three types of plate boundary and the earthquakes and volcanoes they cause, using the San Andreas Fault, Mount St. Helens, Kīlauea and Yellowstone as examples. Cross-section diagrams and a Ring of Fire map are explained in short steps, followed by vocabulary matching, whole-class checks, a "design an earthquake-safe building" challenge and a knowledge check.
