Tell me a little about your career history and what you are doing before Teachmate…

Before Teachmate I worked at a secondary school for ten years as a learning support assistant in the SEN department. I was classroom-based, working with SEN students and students with additional needs. Before that, I worked at a car auction which was really good fun. I also previously worked at a bank with Mel, our Operations Director. 

Tell me about your role at Teachmate? 

My role as Operations Assistant is to support Mel so she can take on new tasks. Mel is responsible for many things behind the scenes that keep Teachmate running efficiently, including setting up whole school trials, managing school renewals and invoicing. 

What’s your favourite thing about working at Teachmate? 

I love the flexibility of working at Teachmate and I’m enjoying working from home. It’s a big change! Coming from an education background, I think that Teachmate is an amazing product. When I started using it I was completely gobsmacked by what it can do. I think it has the power to revolutionise the way that schools operate. 

Which is your favourite tool/tools?

The Differentiate Text tool is amazing. If the teacher doesn’t differentiate the work for the SEN students, the teaching assistant or learning support assistant has to do it. When you’re trying to keep up with the lesson pace, you can’t always do it as effectively as you want to. It’s a game-changer.

What are your favourite things to do when you’re not at work? 

I am lucky to live in beautiful Cornwall, and I love spending time with my family and taking my dog for a walk with my husband. I have four children – three are at home and one has just moved out. I’m treasuring the time with them before they all leave home!
