AI safety & compliance
Assessed against every DfE safety standard
Teachmate's leadership team worked directly with the DfE on the development of these standards. Here is how we meet every standard that applies to a teacher-facing platform.
Privacy & data protection
Pupil data is never used to train AI models. A full privacy notice, DPA and DPIA guidance are available.
Security
CyberEssentials certified, with tiered admin permissions so schools control who can access what.
Monitoring & transparency
Output history is retained for review through My Content (for 28 days), supporting school oversight.
Intellectual property
Teachers retain ownership of everything they generate; content is not used for product training.
Design & testing
Every tool is tested by teachers and specialist user groups before release, with ongoing quality review.
Governance
A formal complaints process and periodic risk assessment cover model, feature and tool changes.
AI doing the heavy lifting and admin means time back for teachers.
Independent survey results from 1,846 Teachmate users. Not the solution to the recruitment and retention crisis on its own - but a meaningful part of it.

Everything school leaders ask before signing up.
Is Teachmate designed for use in schools?
Yes. We built Teachmate specifically for education. Our commitments include UK GDPR compliance, alignment with the Department for Education's AI safety standards and Cyber Essentials certification. Schools should still complete their own approval and risk-assessment process before rollout. Visit the Trust Centre.
How does a school manage staff licences?
After a school purchase is processed, the purchaser becomes the school group manager or they can appoint a manager. The management panel lets that person assign or reassign licences to staff email addresses.
What oversight does a school administrator receive?
Our school offering includes a management panel and information about product use and reported time saved, as well as top users. This gives leaders visibility of adoption. We will not provide individual teacher usage or tool data.
Which curricula does Teachmate support?
We provide curriculum-aligned tools for: Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, United States and Wales. As well as: Spanish, French, Italian, IGCSE, International Baccalaureate (IB), International A-Levels and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). The context collected by each tool can include curriculum, phase, subject and topic.
Does Teachmate support single sign-on?
Yes. School customers can use Google OpenID Connect or Microsoft Azure AD/OpenID Connect for single sign-on after a school administrator configures it. We receive an authentication token and user identifier, not the user's password.
Is a Data Processing Agreement available?
Yes. We publish our Data Processing Agreement, including processing instructions, security measures, retention information and the current sub-processor annex. Read the agreement.
Should teachers enter pupil names or other identifying information?
You do not need to enter identifiable pupil data to use our tools. Please minimise personal data and use nicknames or pseudonyms where context is needed. We also remind users not to include unnecessary identifiers. Please be reassured though that we do not use your data to train AI models. Customer data, including all user inputs, outputs, and feedback, is never used to train, fine tune, or otherwise incorporate into any large language model. No customer data is included in any model weights, training datasets, or fine tuning processes. This applies to all data entered into our tools, without exception. Read the data-protection guidance.
What training is available for school staff?
We provide live and recorded CPD webinars, product guidance and Certified Educator courses. Schools can discuss the training needed for their rollout with our team.
